What If You Didn’t Have to Make Everything Happen?
There are people who have learned to survive by doing.
Taking care of things.
Finding solutions.
Making sure things happen.
And sometimes, after years of living this way, receiving can feel almost unfamiliar.
A woman I have been working with has a particular connection with the Virgin Mary. Her presence had already emerged very strongly during one of our sessions.
Some time later, my client told me a small story.
There was a place she liked to pass during her walks, where there was a small grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
She loved stopping there, but she was saddened by its condition. The paint was peeling and the place looked neglected.
One day, she happened to mention it to someone she knew.
She didn’t contact anyone responsible for the place or try to organise anything herself. The person simply said she knew someone she could mention it to.
A few weeks later, my client passed the grotto again.
It had been repainted.
She was delighted.
But what interested me even more was what she said afterwards.
Recently, she had begun to have this feeling:
I ask, and things happen.
Of course, she didn’t mean that everything she wanted was suddenly given to her.
For years, she had lived with a deeply wounded sense of her own value. During our work together, this had started to change. And I could see that she was beginning to experience her relationship with life differently too.
She could say what she wanted without immediately thinking that she had to make it happen herself.
She could ask for something, leave it there, and see what happened.
I also found it quite touching that this particular experience happened around a grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary, after her presence had already appeared so strongly in our work together.
When she told me the story, she was simply happy. The grotto had been taken care of, and for her it was one more of those recent moments when life seemed to be responding differently.
Maybe life was changing around her.
Maybe she was noticing different things because something had changed inside her.
Probably a little of both.
