Reconnecting & self healing
The Part of Us That Is Still Alive
She walked into the room as if she did not want to take up too much space.
There was something almost extinguished about her.
When I invited her to tell me why she had come, she spoke about her depression.
About a difficult situation with someone who had been deeply harmful to her.
About abuse. About grief. There was a lot.
And yet, as I listened to her, I could feel there was more than the words she was giving me.
I didn’t need to push.
Over the years, I have learned to respect the rhythm of the person in front of me. What needs to emerge will emerge when they are ready to see it, feel it or hear it.
So we began with something very simple.
And almost immediately, something changed.
Her face changed colour. There was suddenly more life in it.
“I feel better,” she said.
It was only the beginning of the session.
Later came a moment of spiritual healing.
And during that part of the work, the Virgin Mary appeared.
I don’t decide who or what appears during this kind of work. I simply stay present and allow the process to unfold.
There was something incredibly gentle about her presence.
A sense of being held, of being loved without having to deserve it.
Of being seen beyond the pain, beyond the story, beyond everything this woman had been carrying.
And then an image came to me : A tree.
A tree that had been through storms.
Its branches had been shaken. Some parts had been damaged. Perhaps some had even died.
But underneath, the roots were still there.
And somewhere inside, life was still there too.
This is something I have witnessed many times in my work.
We can go through experiences that leave us believing that something essential in us has disappeared.
We can become tired, withdrawn, disconnected from ourselves.
We can learn to make ourselves smaller.
Sometimes so gradually that we don’t even realise how much of ourselves we have stopped inhabiting.
But healing is not always about becoming someone new.
Sometimes it is about reconnecting with what was never completely lost.
The part of us that is still alive underneath. The part that can receive love again.
This part that can begin to trust Life again.
At the end of the session, the woman who left the room did not look like the woman who had entered it.
Of course, one session does not erase everything a person has lived through.
And yet, something had shifted, making space for something new.
Sometimes, this is where healing begins.
Not with a dramatic transformation, but with a little more colour in the face.
A little more presence in the body, a little more space inside.
A small movement towards life.
Like a tree after a long winter, when the first signs of spring are still almost invisible.
The life was there all along.
It was simply waiting for enough safety, enough space, enough love…to begin flowing again.
Do you feel like your life has lost the mining?
You are tired, withdrawn, disconnected from yourself”
