The Words I Use Are Not the Truth
When a client comes to see me, our work begins with listening.
I listen to their story, the words they use, what seems important and sometimes what seems to lie underneath.
And while I listen, ideas, connections or phrases may come to me.
Recently, during an initial conversation, a client was explaining how different she often felt from other people. She needed to understand things deeply and sometimes struggled with the fact that her way of functioning did not seem to fit the way others functioned.
A sentence came very clearly to me:
“I am at peace with the way I function.”
It felt right. But feeling right is usually not enough for me.
INTUITION AND TESTING WORK TOGETHER
Over more than 25 years of practice, I have trained in different approaches to kinesiology and other therapeutic and energetic methods.
Some of the tools I use come directly from these trainings: protocols, charts, detection points and specific phrases. Others arise intuitively during a session.
But these are not two separate ways of working.
Most of the time, I test what comes intuitively.
I check whether a direction is appropriate, whether it is a priority, whether this is what we need to work with now or whether something else needs to come first.
Sometimes something that seems completely logical is not where the body leads us.
Sometimes something unexpected is.
This dialogue between intuition and testing is at the heart of my practice.
In this particular session, “I am at peace with the way I function” was confirmed as our direction of work.
Later, one of my protocols brought us to another sentence:
“I am in harmony with my psyche.”
This phrase belongs to an existing protocol and is associated with a specific detection point at the top of the forehead, close to the hairline.
Over the years, I have noticed that this point often appears when someone is struggling with themselves — when they have difficulty accepting or making peace with the way they think, feel or function.
Considering what this client had just told me, the connection was striking.
But information during a session does not always appear through a protocol.
WHEN INFORMATION COMES AS AN IMAGE
Sometimes I perceive an image. Sometimes a word comes. Something may seem to have a shape, a position, a movement or even dimensions.
And I need words to communicate what I perceive.
I might speak of a cord, a wall, a stake, an energetic attachment, a hole or a weight.
But what exactly is it?
I don’t claim to know.
When I use words such as “a stake”, “a cord”, “a wall” or “an energetic attachment”, I am describing the form in which the information presents itself to me. I am not claiming that this is an objective reality.
I always remind my clients:
“These are my words, my perceptions and my vocabulary. You don’t have to make them yours.”
And yet, we can work with them.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO BELIEVE IN A SYMBOLE TO EXPERIENCE IT
Sometimes the work takes the form of a symbolic exercise or ritual.
For example, if what emerges during a session is what I call a karmic vow, I may propose a ritual of release.
I don’t think someone needs to decide whether such a vow literally exists before working with what it represents.
There is a difference between belief and participation.
For the duration of the ritual, I invite the person to enter the experience fully.
A mirror, a candle, words spoken aloud, a gesture of release — these give a physical and symbolic form to something that may otherwise remain abstract.
There is a before, an action, and an after.
A story, an image or a ritual can sometimes change the way we experience our own story.
We don’t necessarily need to know exactly what the symbol is in order to discover what working with it may open.
WORDS GIVE FORM TO WHAT I PERCEIVE
This is something I believe is particularly important when working intuitively, energetically or symbolically.
What I perceive and the words I use to describe it are part of the therapeutic process. They are tools that allow us to explore something together.
Perhaps what appears to me as a “wall” would appear completely differently to another practitioner. Perhaps my client experiences it simply as pressure, fear or resistance.
What matters to me is not proving which description is right.
It is what becomes possible through the work.
I can say: “This is what is coming to me.”
I can test whether it is relevant.
We can explore it together.
And then we see what moves.
Because the purpose of a session is not to convince someone that my perception is right.
It is to help them become freer in their relationship with themselves.
And sometimes, freedom begins simply by making peace with the way we function.
Is your way of living different than others but feels right to you?
Are you in conflict between social patterns of functioning and your own way? Do you want to understand why you feel different?
I would be honoured to accompany you on your journey to deeply connect and understand yourself.
I offer in-person sessions in West Cork, Ireland, and online sessions worldwide.
